Shobha Karandlaje Pushes for Highway Development and Road Safety in Udupi
Udupi, Jan 09, 2024: Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Shobha Karandlaje emphasized the urgent completion of land acquisition procedures for the highway project spanning from Coastal Junction to Malpe.
Speaking during a progress review meeting for the NH-66, 169, and 169A projects held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Office auditorium in Rajathadri, she stressed the need for swift commencement of road construction.
Addressing concerns about the narrow road affecting the smooth movement of vehicles to Malpe Beach, a popular destination for fishing activities and tourists, Karandlaje directed officials to initiate road widening work promptly. The minister acknowledged the rising number of road accidents near Padubidre junction on NH-66 and called for immediate road safety measures within the area to ensure accident-free travel.
She highlighted the ongoing road development projects on NH-66 and 169A in the district, urging their timely completion with a focus on quality. Emphasizing transparency, she instructed authorities to display comprehensive information about the ongoing work at the site, keeping the public informed.
Expressing concern over pending bridge works, the minister urged their prompt completion before the onset of the monsoon season. She further emphasized the need for expeditious action on the railway overbridge near Indrali, ensuring smooth public and vehicular movement.
Turning attention to the construction of the Santhekatte underpass, Karandlaje instructed officials to complete the process of breaking boulders promptly and ensure the timely and quality completion of road work.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Dr Vidya Kumari, District Superintendent of Police Dr Arun K, MLAs Yashpal Suvarna, Gurme Suresh Shetty, Kundapur Sub-Divisional Officer Rashmi S, NHAI Project Director Abdul Javed, NHAI Assistant Executive Engineer Manjunath K.V, contractors, and other stakeholders.
