‘Karwar Run’ Showcases Naval Heritage Amidst Spectacular Coastal Backdrop
Karwar, October 15, 2023: In a resplendent tribute to the illustrious legacy and valor of the Indian Navy, the Karwar Naval Base organized the inaugural edition of the ‘Karwar Run’ on October 15. This event, in perfect alignment with the Central Government’s ‘Fit India’ initiative, unfolded against the backdrop of the breathtaking coastal stretch.
The extravaganza featured a gripping 50 km Cyclothon, tracing the scenic contours from Karwar Naval Base to the Goa border. Alongside, a 10 km run unfolded along the enchanting sea-side roads of the Naval Base, while a spirited 5 km ‘Run for Fun’ catered to enthusiasts and fitness aficionados.

A wave of fervor and unprecedented participation marked the event, with over 2000 individuals joining the fray, spanning various ages and walks of life. This rendezvous not only facilitated interaction between the civil community and the stalwart naval personnel, but also saw the presence of local administration officials, heads of esteemed institutions, hospitals, and hotels.
Rear Admiral KM Ramakrishnan, Flag Officer Commanding Karnataka Naval Area, was the Chief Guest. He pledged to elevate the event to greater heights in the coming years, envisioning it as a signature fixture in Karwar’s annual calendar. He expressed hope that the event would serve as a beacon, not only commemorating the Navy’s illustrious history, but also acting as a catalyst for local tourism and economic growth.
Adding a touch of glamour was the presence of the celebrated singer, Lucky Ali, whose vibrant participation infused the festivities with renewed vigor. His presence served as a testament to the unwavering commitment of the naval community towards serving the people of Karwar and the nation at large.
Participants were treated to an array of prizes, bespoke T-shirts, medals, and delectable refreshments. The atmosphere was further enlivened by the naval Jazz band’s melodic tunes and invigorating Zumba sessions. For those seeking inner peace, a seasoned yoga instructor guided sessions. The event also interspersed poignant videos, underscoring the sacrifices made by sea warriors in safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests.
Visnu Todkar emerged victorious in the men’s 50 km Cyclothon, while Aditi Lohit claimed the women’s title. The 10 km run was triumphed by Rahul and Chandrika Gauda in their respective categories. Prizes included coveted gift vouchers from Decathlon, cutting-edge smart watches, and more.
