CAMPCO President Allays Farmers’ Fears Over Bhutan Arecanut Import Impact
Mangaluru, Aug 07, 2023: The recent announcement by the Central Government regarding the import of Green Arecanut from Bhutan has triggered apprehensions within the domestic farming community, primarily stemming from worries of a potential decline in local market prices. However, A. Kishore Kumar Kodgi, the President of CAMPCO (The Central Arecanut and Cocoa Marketing and Processing Cooperative Limited), has stepped forward to address these concerns and provide reassurance to the farmers.
Representing a substantial body of over 1,41,000 grower members, Kodgi took a firm stance in clarifying that the import of Green Arecanut from Bhutan holds an inconsequential share in the overall production of our nation.

As such, he stressed that this import would have no impact on the domestic market rate, effectively negating any significant drop in prices for White Chali—a product derived from locally grown arecanut.
Kodgi’s statement is aimed at dispelling any apprehensions or uncertainties among domestic Arecanut growers. The intention is to bolster confidence within the farming community and ensure that they can continue their activities without undue worry about potential disruptions in the market caused by the import of Arecanut from Bhutan.
