Workshop on Viral Hepatitis for Government Doctors held at Kasturba Hospital
Manipal, July 28, 2023: In observance of World Hepatitis Day, which is globally recognized on July 28th, Kasturba Hospital in Manipal, in collaboration with the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Udupi District, conducted a workshop on Viral Hepatitis for Government Doctors.
With this year’s theme being ‘We’re not waiting,’ the workshop aimed to raise awareness about viral hepatitis, promote prevention measures, and stress the importance of timely screening and treatment. The ultimate goal, as set by the World Health Organization, is to eliminate hepatitis by 2030.
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr. Nagabushan Udupa H, District Health and Family Welfare Officer, who underscored the urgency of addressing the rising hepatitis infections in India. He emphasized the significance of early diagnosis and treatment for individuals unaware of the disease. The collaboration with Kasturba Hospital aimed to equip government doctors with essential knowledge and tools to promptly identify and treat hepatitis cases within the community.
Eminent healthcare professionals, including Dr. Anand Venugopal, COO- Teaching Hospital MAHE Manipal, Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent of Kasturba Hospital, and Dr. Chidananda Sanju S V, District TB Officer, and AIDS Control Officer, were present at the event. Dr. Shiran Shetty, Head of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Kasturba Hospital and Honorary Consultant and Subject Expert of Udupi District Viral Hepatitis Control Committee, were present.
Renowned experts, Dr. Shiran Shetty and Dr. Ganesh Bhat, Professor at the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology – Kasturba Hospital, Manipal, along with Dr. Ashwini MA, Senior Scientific Officer from the Department of Neurovirology at NIMHANS, Bangalore, and Dr. Chythtra R Rao, Professor at the Department of Community Medicine, were the resource persons for the workshop.
The workshop served as a pivotal platform for knowledge dissemination and skill enhancement, in line with the objective of combating hepatitis and contributing to the WHO’s vision of eliminating the disease by 2030.
The event witnessed active participation from government doctors and healthcare professionals, reiterating their commitment to combat this public health concern effectively.
