Udupi, June 28, 2023: The coastal districts of Karnataka are bracing themselves for heavy rainfall in the upcoming days, as forecasted by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre.

The districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and adjoining parts of Malnad districts, particularly the wind-ward side, are expected to experience widespread moderate to heavy rains. These downpours are anticipated to persist for the next 10 days, with rainfall intensifying from July 2nd, 2023.

Cautionary Warnings for Thunderstorms, Lightning, and Wind
Isolated areas across the coastal and adjoining districts should be prepared for thunderstorms accompanied by lightning. Residents are advised to exercise caution during such weather conditions.
Additionally, wind warnings have been issued, with squally wind speeds predicted to reach 40-45 kmph, gusting up to 50 kmph along and off the Karnataka coast. In light of this, fishermen are strongly advised against venturing into these areas until further notice.

High Wave Alert and Current Speeds
A high wave alert has been issued for the coast stretching from Mangalore to Karwar, predicting waves ranging from 3.0 to 3.2 meters. Current speeds are recorded between 42 to 57 cm/sec. Coastal residents and visitors are urged to be cautious and avoid venturing too close to the shoreline during this period.

According to IMD Mulki (Dakshina Kannada dt) received highest rainfall – (19 cm) in the state. Karwar (Uttara Kannada dt) recorded 16 cm, Panambur (Dakshina Kannada dt) 15 cm, Mangaluru Airport (Dakshina Kannada dt) 14 cm, Mangaluru (Dakshina Kannada dt) 13 cm and Manki, Belikeri (both Uttara Kannada dt) received 12 cm each.

Heavy rainfall amounts (in cms): Gokarna (Uttara Kannada dt) 11; Kundapur (Udupi dt) 10; Honavar, Shirali Pto, Kumta (all Uttara Kannada dt), Mani, Puttur (both Dakshina Kannada dt), Udupi, Karkala (Udupi dt) 9 each; Kota (Udupi dt), Belthangadi (Dakshina Kannada dt) 8 each; Kollur (Udupi dt), Subramanya (Dakshina Kannada dt), Ankola, Gersoppa (both Uttara Kannada dt) 7 each.

Other chief rainfall amounts (in cms): Dharmasthala (Dakshina Kannada dt), Napoklu (Kodagu dt) 6 each; Castle Rock (Uttara Kannada dt), Siddapura (Udupi dt), Bhagamandala (Kodagu dt), Kottigehara (Chikkamagaluru dt) 5 each; Kadra (Uttara Kannada dt), Khajuri (Kalaburgi dt), Virajpet (Kodagu dt) 4 each; Siddapur (Uttara Kannada dt), Uppinangadi (Dakshina Kannada dt), Linganamakki Hms (Shivamogga dt), Hudakere (Kodagu dt) 3 each; Yellapur, Janmane (both Uttara Kannada dt), Zalki Cross (Vijayapura dt), Gunji (Belagavi dt), Sringeri, Kammardi, Kalasa (all Chikkamagaluru dt), Ponnampet, Gonikoppal KVK, Suntikoppa (all Kodagu dt), Madhugiri (Tumakuru dt), Thalaguppa (Shivamogga dt) 2 each; Jagalbet, Manchikere (both Uttara Kannada dt), Sulya (Dakshina Kannada dt), Londa, Nippani (both Belagavi dt), Bidar, Aurad, Humnabad, Bidar Pto, Santhapur, Nittur, Nirna (all Bidar dt), Kamalapur (Kalaburgi dt), Jayapura, Koppa, Kadur, Mudigere KVK (all Chikkamagaluru dt), Tumakuru, Sravanabelagola (Hassan dt), Tyagarthi, Hunchadakatte, Agrahara Konanduru (all Shivamogga dt), Hunsur (Mysuru dt), Srimangala, Murnadu (both Kodagu dt) 1 each.
