Anantkumar Hegde Pushes for Efficient Execution of Government Works in Uttara Kannada
Karwar, June 23, 2023: Member of Parliament Anantkumar Hegde, has called upon officials to shoulder their responsibilities diligently and ensure that government projects in the district are completed within the designated timeframe and made accessible to the public.
Hegde chaired the Disha meeting at the Zilla Panchayat Hall in the city on Friday and reviewed progress of various departments and sought updates from the officials.
After assessing the horticulture department’s progress, he directed them to cultivate Suragi flowering plants in Uttara Kannada district. The flower of this plant contains approximately 34% of shikimic acid, a crucial component employed by leading pharmaceutical companies worldwide. Valued at Rs 1600 crore per kg, he proposed its cultivation in collaboration with the Zilla Panchayat, Forest Department, and Horticulture Department.
The Health Department presented information indicating a target of issuing 13 lakh cards under the Ayushman Bharat Scheme, of which 4.25 lakh cards have already been distributed by the department. Hegde instructed officials to devise a roadmap for card distribution, submit a report on the progress, and take immediate steps to ensure the timely issuance of all remaining cards.
Addressing the issue of school drop outs in Karwar and Sirsi educational districts, Hegde urged officials to take proactive measures. He expressed concern over low student attendance in Bhatkal and Siddapura taluks, emphasizing the need to create a conducive learning environment in schools and ensure a significant increase in student attendance.
The meeting was attended by Karwar MLA Satish Krishna Sail, Yellapur MLA Shivaram Hebbar, MLC Ganapathy Ulvekar, Deputy Commissioner Prabhulinga Kavalikatti, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Ishwar Kumar Kandu, Karnataka Decentralized Plan Programme and Development committee vice president Pramod Hegde, along with officials from various departments at the district and taluk levels.
