Manipal Centre for Embryology & Reproductive Science Inaugurated
Manipal, June 07, 2023: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, celebrated a momentous occasion today with the official inauguration of “Manipal Centre for Embryology & Reproductive Science.”
Achim Burkart, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Bengaluru was the chief guest.
During his inaugural address, Burkart praised MAHE Manipal’s commitment to advancing medical knowledge, delivering high-quality patient care, and fostering collaborations. He hailed the opening of the Center as a significant stride toward fulfilling the mission of improving healthcare in fertility and other reproductive issues at Kasturba Medical College, Manipal.
Speaking of the long-standing ties between Germany and India, he emphasized the importance of scientific cooperation in serving the welfare of the people. Both countries are now placing increased emphasis on promoting international research collaboration for the betterment of human health.
He also highlighted the involvement of MERCK and other German companies in research and development activities with universities, including plans to establish the world’s largest research and development facility in Bengaluru, with an investment of 135 billion Euros.
Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Pro Vice Chancellor of MAHE, was the guest of honor.
He highlighted the crucial role of research in advancing the field of infertility practice. He emphasized that research provides a platform for discovering new treatment modalities, enhancing existing techniques, and unraveling the underlying causes of infertility.
Dr. Rao expressed confidence that Indian students surpassing their Chinese counterparts in countries such as Australia, Singapore, the United States, and the United Kingdom will soon be replicated in European countries as well.
Presiding over the event, Lt. Gen. (Dr.) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor of MAHE Manipal, lauded the partnership with German industries for their contribution to producing competent human resources to work in IVF centers across African countries, thereby providing the best healthcare in the field.
He expressed optimism that the newly inaugurated center would pave the way for groundbreaking discoveries, empower healthcare professionals, and bring renewed hope to those facing infertility challenges.
The VC also celebrated MAHE’s recent achievements, including its ranking as No. 4 in Gender Equity and 25th in Quality Education in the world according to the Times Impact Ranking. The university was also ranked No. 6 in the NIRF University Category.
Professor Satish Adiga, Head of the Division of Clinical Embryology, provided an enlightening overview of the Manipal Centre for Embryology and Reproductive Science. Dr. Padmaraj Hegde, Dean of KMC Manipal, extended a warm welcome to the attendees, while Professor Guruprasad Kalthur, Head of the Reproductive Science Department, delivered the vote of thanks.
Kasturba Medical College, Manipal, holds the distinction of being the first in Asia to establish a clinical embryology subspecialty in 2005. The college aims to provide comprehensive academic training, research experience, ethical practices, and skills related to infertility.
Presently, the center stands as one of Asia’s premier institutions for advanced training and research in the field of infertility and embryology, earning recognition from numerous national and international bodies. The program was skillfully led by Nicky Joshi, serving as the Master of Ceremony.
