Karwar, Oct 21, 2022: Sale and transportation of liquor has been banned in the backdrop of election for the vacant wards of a few Gram Panchayats in Uttara Kannada.

Election will be held on October 28 for the vacant wards in Majali, Devalamakki, Bada, Kalabhaga, Pala and Katheli gram panchayats.

In the backdrop of this, sale and transportation of liquor will be banned from 5 pm on October 26 to 4 pm on October 28.

All liquor shops and liquor manufacturing units shall be closed by the owners, occupants and managers. The shops and units should be sealed and the key should be handed over to the Deputy Commissioner or the jurisdictional Executive Magistrate. People have been asked to maintain peace, law and order.
If people are found to be in possession or consuming liquor or causing public nuisance, they will be kept in custody till the conclusion of election as a precautionary measure, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said in a press statement.
