Heavy rain disrupts normal life in Bhatkal
Bhatkal, Aug 02, 2022: Four people were killed and about 251 people shifted to temporary to Kalaji Kendra due to heavy rain in Bhatkal Taluk today.
The rain resulted in the landslide in Bhatkal taluk killing four from a family at around 4 am on Tuesday.
As several places in Bhatkal were flooded, the district administration took measures to shift them to Kalaji Kendra. Water entered 1,173 houses.
Officials said that six Kalaji Kendras were opened- 2 at Shirali, one each at Hebali, Puravarga, Bengre, and Kaikini. Of the 251 shifted 31 were children. The officials shifted many families using boats.
Four houses were severely damaged, 24 partially and 1 completely damaged in the Taluk. The rain has also damaged 1.5 hectares of horticulture crops.
Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan visited the flood affected areas on Tuesday and supervised the works.
He said that SDRF team has been deployed in Ankola and Kumta Taluks. Additional teams have come from Mangaluru and Belagavi. One team has been sent for Bhatkal and another for Yellapur.
