Mangaluru, June 17, 2022: Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra KV has instructed the Deputy Director of Mines and Geology B M Lingaraj to set up a helpline to redress the grievances of sand consumers in the district.
He was chairing the district sand committee meeting on Friday.
The DC instructed the officials of the Mines and Geology Department to set up a helpline in the district at the earliest so that the problems of the public in the district regarding sand can be heard and resolved.
“Desilting work has already started in the backwaters of Adyapadi dam in Mangaluru taluk and Shambur dam on Netravathi River bed in Bantwal taluk. Arrangements should be made to deliver the stored sand to the customers on time. Maralu Mitra app has been developed and customers can now check the quality of sand online and then book the sand in advance. There should be wide publicity, which should be useful to the common man,” he said.
He said that care should be taken to ensure that there is no inconvenience to the public living in and around the area where sand is removed. Sand vehicles should move slowly on the roads where the schools are located, in the district,” he said.
“The list of the quantity of sand collected, the customers who have booked, and those who have already received sand should be prepared every week. The list should be submitted to the district administration. CCTV Cameras should be installed at the place of sand removal. All the vehicles transporting sand should have GPS,” he instructed.
