Manipal, June 9, 2022: Dept of Neurosurgery of Kasturba Medical College and Hospital, Manipal organized a Brain Tumour awareness program on June 8.

Every year June 8 is observed as World Brain Tumour Day. This year it is being observed with the theme “Together We Are Stronger”. It is an annual event to increase awareness and educate people about the causes, symptoms, and treatment of brain tumors.

Dr. Sharath Kumar Rao, Dean, KMC Manipal who was the chief guest of the program released the awareness and information kit.

“Just by hearing the word ‘Brain Tumor’ people get scared and think it is the end of life. Due to the advancement in the medical field, especially in the neurosurgery department, there have been dramatic changes providing treatment for Brain Tumor,” he said.

He added that the main objective of observing brain tumor day is to create awareness and educate people about the brain tumor and its treatment. Brain tumors can be completely cured through early detection, diagnosis, and treatment,” he said.

Dr. Avinash Shetty, Medical Superintendent spoke about the service provided by Kasturba Hospital- Manipal.
“Our hospital is providing treatment for 12-15 districts of Karnataka and neighboring states over the past 6 decades. We are not only providing the treatment but also creating awareness and educating the people about various diseases and life-threatening illness,” he added.

Dr. Girish Menon, Professor & HOD, Department of Neurosurgery gave the overview.

“In Kasturba Hospital Manipal in the past 10 years we operated around 1700 brain tumors cases which is an alarming number,” he said.

Dr. Raghavendra Nayak, Professor, Department of Neurosurgery proposed the vote of thanks.
