Karwar, April 26, 2022: Indian Navy personnel from Dockyard Apprentice School (DAS), Karwar, and Naval Ship Repair Yard, Karwar participated in the Apprenticeship Mela in Kumta.

The Mela was organized by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship at Government Industrial Training Institute, Kumta on 21 Apr 22.

A stall with a publicity desk was set up and models of Ships, Submarines, Marine equipment, etc prepared by Dockyard apprentices were displayed at the venue.

Many students visited the stall and got information about the training activities being undertaken by DAS. The procedure and eligibility conditions for enrollment as apprentices were also briefed.

DAS, Karwar is an Apprentice school notified by the Regional Directorate of Apprenticeship Training, Hyderabad in Apr 2008. Ever since the school has been functioning/ contributing to the national pool of skilled manpower.

Presently, the school has completed 14 years of successful training for 12 batches of trainees. It can train 150 Apprentices, with hostel facilities located inside Naval Base, Karwar for 50 personnel. This training has significantly contributed towards providing education, training, and skilling to youth of adjoining villages of Karwar and Uttara Kannada district as a whole.
