Udupi looks to develop community-based tourism
Udupi, March 27, 2022: Fifty people including 20 women from a self-help group in Udupi district have been trained for a month in community-based tourism, said Udupi Zilla Panchayat CEO, Dr. Y. Naveen Bhat.
He was speaking at the inauguration of the community-based tourism and Sanjeevini Kala Sinchana program on Sunday.
The event was organized by Malpe Paradise Group of Resorts and Manipal Welcome Group Graduate School of Hotel Administration in association with Udupi Zilla Panchayat National Rural Livelihood Mission.
“This is an online training course for a month. It will teach them about the use of social media, various language skills including English, and attract tourists with their talents, he said.
“Tourists will be taken to the fields where Mattu Gulla, Shankarpura Mallige are grown. They will be shown Paddy fields, areca and coconut plantations. The tourists will get the experience of the special crops and agriculture of the region. This will also improve the economic status of the rural people of the district and also help in attracting more tourists to Udupi district,” he added.
“Seven art troupes of women have been formed to introduce and showcase the art and culture of the district to tourists coming from other places here. These troupes will be showcasing the art and culture of Udupi to tourists at resorts and hotels. All the necessary training will be given to the team,” he said.
