Udupi, Jan 01, 2022: Home Minister Araga Jnanendra and Social Welfare Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary met members of the Koraga tribal community who were assaulted by the Police officials last week.

The Minister assured an inquiry by the CID team and also distributed cheques to the victims.

Last Monday, the Kota PSI and his personnel allegedly assaulted a Mehendi celebration at a Koraga colony in Kotathattu village. The issue had grabbed the media’s attention and was taken up by the political parties. Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary who too hails from the same place had demanded the officials to take strict action against the erring officials.

The SI was suspended by IGP-WR and other personnel shifted to other stations.

Kota Srinivas Poojary also had met Home Minister Araga Jnanendra in connection to this. The Home Minister who decided to personally visit the place arrived at Kota today and spoke to the family members.

“I am deeply disturbed by this incident. I know the Koraga community people. They never indulge in any unnecessary activities. Police officials are here to control goondas. But if they are involved in such incident, they will end up putting the entire police department in a bad light,” the Home Minister said.

“Do not panic. Our government is with you. We will provide justice. DySP is inquiring into the incident. But we will now give it to CID,” he said.

The Minister also distributed cheques to six victims. Of the total Rs 2 lakh assured to each victim, the minister handed over the first installment of Rs 50 thousand to each victim.

“I also came to know that one of the police personnel has filed a counter case blaming the Koraga community people. He should not have done that. Filing a fake case is a crime. I want to tell you that you (the Koraga community) don’t worry. Nothing will happen in that case,” he added.
