This year the Tirugata will be held from Nov 29 (today) till May 25, 2022. On Nov 29 the Gejje Kattuva Muhurtha will be at 6 pm (Vrishabha Lagna).

On Monday all the six troupes will perform ‘Pandava Ashwamedha.’

This ‘Prasanga,’ or Plot is performed by the Yakshagana troups on the first day of ‘Tirugata.’

Pandava Ashwamedha is the story where Pandavas win and offer Ashwamedha Yaga with the blessings of Sri Krishna. The Yakshagana Melas perform this story seeking the divine blessings for the success and prosperity of the troupes as well as those who perform it.

Kateel Mela is one of the busiest Melas in Karnataka with booking for about 20 years.

Every year on average about 1,000 Yakshagana shows are held. Of these, about 500 shows are permanently sponsored by devotees or organizations and about 250 are booked under ‘Tatkal.’
