Palakkad Division holds Railway Week -2021
Mangaluru contributes 90% of the freight loading of the Palakkad Division and helps the division to get more than 50% of its total revenue earnings
Mangaluru, Nov 21, 2021: The 66th Railway week Celebration of Southern Railway, Palakkad Division was held at Mangaluru on Nov 20. The function was held at the Regional Training Center, Konkan Railway, Mangaluru.
Trilok Kothari, Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad, B. B. Nikam, Regional Railway Manager, Karwar, Konkan Railway Corporation Limited, Sakkeer Hussain, Additional Divisional Railway Manager-II, Palakkad Division, M.P. Lipin Raj, Senior Divisional Personnel Officer, Branch Officers, Supervisors, and staff were present.
Railway Week Celebrations normally is being held in the second week of April every year which got postponed due to Covid -19 situation. Railway Week Celebration is being conducted in two sessions. The first session was held yesterday at Mangaluru. The second one will be held at Palakkad on Nov 26.
Trilok Kothari said that Mangaluru has been chosen for the first time as the venue for the Railway Week celebration of Palakkad Division, duly recognizing the importance of the Coastal city, which plays a pivotal place in freight loading and earnings of Southern Railway.
Mangaluru City has 2 important railway stations of Southern Railway i.e., Mangaluru Central and Mangaluru Junction. And Mangaluru contributes 90% of the freight loading of the Palakkad Division and helps the division to get more than 50% of its total revenue earnings.
Southern Railway has taken up major development projects at Mangaluru in accordance with the potential of the area to provide additional passenger train services as well as freight traffic.
The pit line work, additional Platform work has been taken up at Mangaluru Cantal. Efforts are being given to develop the Manglaluru Junction Station further with better facilities. Electrification work of the area has been completed and track doubling work between Mangaluru Junction and Panambur will be completed shortly with the commissioning of the new tunnel at Kulasekhara.
Doubling work between Mangaluru Central and Nethravathi is also completed. More passenger trains can be operated with the completion of these ongoing development projects in Mangaluru railway stations.
Followed by the inaugural ceremony, dignitaries presented 62 individual awards and five group awards to the staff and the Supervisors of various departments.
