Activist favors educated persons contesting poll
COUNCIL COUNTDOWN
Karwar, Nov 12, 2021: While political parties are busy finalizing candidates for the MLC election, activist Madhav Nayak has appealed to the political parties to send an apt candidate to the upper house.
The election for the Local Authorities Constituencies of the Karnataka Legislative Council will be held on Dec 10 and counting will be on Dec 14.
“Legislative Council is considered as the Upper House or House of Elders. People in this house should be qualified people,” Jana Shakthi Vedike president Madhav Nayak told The Canara Post.
“Our district has had good MLCs like V D Hegade, Shantharam Siddi and Shubhalatha Asnotikar. I request the political parties to field educated candidates who can understand the problems of the people, who have worked for the society and those who can contribute to the public,” he said.
“We have heard discussions about parties planning to field illiterate people and those who do not have any knowledge about legislation. Political parties should maintain the dignity of the house and field the eligible candidates only. The voters should ensure they send a good candidate,” he added.
