Make Madhva Jayanthi a state celebration: Palimaru Swamiji
Udupi, Oct 15, 2021: Palimaru Peetadhipathi Sri Vidyadheesha Tirtha Sripadaru has asked the state government to make ‘Madhva Jayanthi’ a state celebration.
As Sri Madhvacharya was born on Vijayadashami, the day is also celebrated as Madhva Jayanthi in Udupi.
“Sri Madhavacharya was a great personality born in Karnataka. His contribution to religion, art, and culture is exemplary. The state government should take a decision and make his birthday, a state celebration,” Swamiji said.
He spoke about Madhvacharya’s contribution to spirituality, Yakshagana, and Dasa Sahithya. He also recollected how Iskcon founder Srila Prabhupada was influenced by Sri Madhva’s teachings.
“Government is organizing various ‘Jayanthis.’ Let it include Madhva Jayanthi. We do not want the government to declare holiday as Sri Madhva believed in ‘Karma Siddhantha.’ But all the followers of Madhvacharya are united in this demand that the government should make it a state celebration,” he added.
