DC denies initiating temple demolition drive in Dakshina Kannada
Mangaluru, Sept 15, 2021: Before rumors and social media posts could create unnecessary tension in the district, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V has clarified that the district administration has not marked any temple for demolition.
The demolition of temples in the Mysuru district had resulted in a heated argument. It had put the BJP government in a fix making the opponents question the ‘Hindutva,’ of BJP.
For the last two days, there were rumors about similar demolition drives in other places too including Dakshina Kannada.
To ensure such rumors do not create problems in the communally sensitive district, Deputy Commissioner Dr Rajendra K V clarified on Tuesday night.
“The District administration has not decided to demolish or shift any structure of places of worship as of now. Field officials are looking into the list of unauthorized structures and will decide accordingly in consultation with the police department,” he said.
“If some temples/churches/mosques are old are not posing danger to road safety, not creating a public nuisance and not disturbing social harmony it can be regularized,” he said.
