Coast Guard rescues 11 stranded fishermen near Udupi
Mangaluru, Sept 15, 2021: Eleven fishermen were rescued by the Indian Coast Guard off Malpe Coast today.
In a press statement, the Coast Guard said that after the fishing boat Sagar Samrat lost propulsion it requested the merchant ships nearby which in turn requested Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai for assistance.
The Coast Guard Ship Rajdoot sailed from Mangaluru and reached the stranded boat at around midnight on September 14.
Due to the inclement weather and various complications of the boat like Battery draining, depleting ration, and freshwater, ICGS Rajdoot took the fishing boat under tow along with 11 fishermen in good health condition today afternoon.
At 5.30 pm today the Coast Guard Ship handed over the boat to IFB Dhanishka-I, the boat arranged by the Fisheries Department near Malpe coast.
Electronic surveillance in the area is being maintained through the coastal surveillance network to shepherd fishing boats in the area to safer locations. Regular weather warning advisory is also being transmitted.
