Excess water from Linganamakki to be released, KPCL issues warning
Karwar, June 30, 2021: Heavy rain in the Sharavathi catchment area has increased the inflow into the Linganamakki dam. Following this officials have decided to let out the excess water.
People living downstream have been asked to shift to safer places and not to venture into the river.
The maximum level of the dam is 1819 feet. On July 29 morning the water level in the dam stood at 1806.20 feet. If the same amount of inflow continues, the excess water has to be let out of the dam.
In view of the safety of the dam, the excess water may be let out anytime. “People living downstream should not venture into the river. We request them to shift along with their cattle and valuables to a safer place,” an announcement by Executive Engineer of Linganamakki stated.
