Dakshina Kannada strives to bring down Covid Positivity Rate
SPECIAL STORY
Mangaluru, June 17, 2021: After the Unlock process was initiated in many of the districts including Udupi and Uttara Kannada, Dakshina Kannada, where the restriction continues, is trying its best to bring down the positivity rate in the district.
The state government relaxed lockdown in those districts which recorded low positivity rates and continued the lockdown restrictions in 11 districts including Dakshina Kannada which recorded a high rate of Covid cases.
In the last one week, Dakshina Kannada has taken various measures to ensure a descending trend in the Covid cases.
Udupi district claimed that it was able to control the Covid cases in rural areas after it imposed complete lockdown in those Panchayats that had over 50 active cases.
Dakshina Kannada too followed the same method. A total lockdown has been imposed in 18 Panchayats with more than 50 active cases for a week from last Monday.
The district has also increased the number of testing as it plays a major role in controlling Covid.
While the number of samples tested ranged between 3,000 and 4,000 last week, it has now been increased. As many as 8,392 and 9,541 were tested on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
Testing has been increased in the 18 villages where the district administration has imposed complete lockdown.
To ensure Covid does not spread, the district administration has made it mandatory to undertake Covid testing in the containment and micro containment zones.
The increase in testing has also borne fruits as the positivity rate has come down drastically and now ranges between 5 percent and 8 percent.
The district administration aims to bring it down further by taking such measures.
