Mangaluru Police arrest 38 Sri Lankan nationals
Mangaluru, June 11, 2021: In a major operation, Mangaluru City Police arrested 38 Sri Lankan nationals and 6 people who provided shelter to them in Mangaluru yesterday.
They could be part of human trafficking and were staying illegally in Mangaluru for about one and half months.
Police Commissioner N Shashikumar said during the preliminary probe they found Sri Lankan citizens were assured jobs in Canada.
They had landed at Thoothukudi on March 17. As the security was beefed up in Tamil Nadu for election, they were sent to Bangaluru and later to Mangaluru.
A case is registered under IPC Sections 370 and 420, Section 14 of Foreigners Act 1964 and Section 12 (1) (a) of Passport Act 1967.
