Udupi initiates action against govt land encroachers
Special Story
Udupi, June 09, 2021: While the district administration is busy in the fight against Covid-19, the landgrabbers have found it an apt time to stealthily encroach the government land.
Taking serious note of such incidents, Udupi Deputy Commissioner has written to all the Tahsildars to clear the encroachments.
Last week Udupi district Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Sadashiva Prabhu inspected two such encroachments.
He had been to Byndoor on June 4 to supervise the Covid related measures, when he inspected encroachment in 5-acre government land near Helipad at Golihole village. The valuable trees were chopped off.
A similar case came to light at Kukkehalli village in Brahmavara Taluk. He noted the encroachment of government land near the Village Accountant’s office beside Kolalagiri-Perdoor road.
The ADC asked the officials to clear the encroachment and take legal action against the people involved. He also brought this to the notice of the Deputy Commissioner.
Deputy Commissioner writes to Tahsildars:
Taking serious note of the increase in government land encroachments and silence of the revenue officials, Udupi Deputy Commissioner has shot a letter to all the Tahsildars in the district.
The DC has asked all the Tahisildars to tour their Taluks and find land encroachments and clear them immediately. Necessary steps like fencing the land and putting up board need to be taken immediately.
The DC has also asked the Tahsildars to take legal action against the encroachers and send a proposal to take disciplinary action against the revenue officials who indirectly supported the encroachment through their silence.
He has asked all the Tahsildar’s to submit a detailed report on the action taken by June 11 evening.
