Highest ever fine collected in a day

Udupi, April 18, 2021: Think before venturing out without wearing a mask or failing to maintain social distancing as the officials in Udupi district are keeping a strict vigil on violators.

On Saturday Udupi district made a record of sorts by booking 939 cases and collecting ₹ 93,900 fine! This is the highest single day fine collection in the district. The earlier record was about 40 thousand last year (a few days after lockdown relaxation).

Sources said that the mask rules is being strictly followed after Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh gave strict instructions to the officials on Saturday to enforce COVID norms.

The highest fine collection was by the police department. According to the Udupi district administration, the Police department alone booked 889 cases and collected ₹ 88,900 on April 17.

The total cases booked to date (from May 2020) is 27,995 and the total amount collected as a fine is ₹ 29,75,900.
