Mangaluru, April 12, 2021: Mangaluru CCB police have arrested a gang of 8 who were preparing for highway robbery near Ulayibettu.

City Police Chief Shashi Kumar told reporters that the CCB police were on special rounds during the Nigh Curfew when they found a team with lethal weapons who were trying to stop and rob vehicles plying on the road at Parari of Ulayibettu village.

The police took the eight into custody.

The arrested are

  1. Tausir alias Pattoji Tausir (28) of Marnamikatte
  2. Mohammed Arafat alias Arafa (29) of Arkula Cottege, Farangepet.
  3. Taslim (27) of Ammemar, Farangipet.
  4. Nasir Hussain (29) of Tumb House, Bantwal.
  5. Mohammed Rafeeq (27) of Pudu village.
  6. Mohammed Safwan alias Safwan (25) of Pudu village
  7. Mohammed Zainuddin (24) of Ammemar.
  8. Unaiz alias Mohammed Unaiz (26) of Pudu.

The police have seized 2 talwar, 2 knives, 1 dragon knife, 8 mobile phones, 5 monkey caps, 3 packets of chilli powder, and an Innova car used for the crime. A case is registered at Mangaluru Rural Police Station.

The team:
The operation was conducted under the guidance of DCPs Hariram Shankar and Vinay A Gaonkar.
Officials in action: CCB Inspector Mahesh Prasad, PSI Rajendra B, Pradeep T R, and personnel.

Police have found that the team was led by Tausir alias Tausi alias Pattoji and Batish alias Basit who is settled abroad. They had found ‘TB Group (Tausseer and Bathish). This group was meant for financial settlements. As per the direction of Batish, Tausir would undertake financial settlements.

Batish is said to be hiding in Saudi Arabia. Police said that as per his direction, Tausir and his boys had collected details of Anas and had planned to collect money from him.

Safwan of the gang had provided 12 lakh to a person from Melkar. As he had not returned the money, the team wanted to kidnap him. They had left for Bengaluru but failed to find him there. Tausir and Taslim were involved in the attempt to rob a house in Dharmasthala Police Station limits in 2020. they had killed the dog of the house then.

Tausir alias Tausi has about 6 cases that include the attempt to murder, dacoity, and assault. Taslim is accused in about 12 cases including the murder of Zia alias Riaz and Fayas at Farangipet.
