Mangaluru, April 03, 2021: In yet another major operation Mangaluru Air Customs officials seized 1.993 kg gold worth Rs 92.27 lakh from a person who had arrived from Dubai on Saturday morning.

Officials said that a passenger Mohammed Ashif (28) from Ullal in Mangaluru had arrived from Dubai on Air India flight during the early hours on Saturday. On checking the customs officials found gold concealed in a specially designed inner garment, Jeans trouser and Knee pads.

Gold of net weight 1.993 kgs valued at ₹ 92,27,590 was seized. Further investigation is under progress.

The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Avinash Kiran Rongali. Crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Superintendents Srikanth and Satish along with Inspector Praful.

Meanwhile on intervening night of April 1 and 2 the officials had intercepted 2 passengers- Abdul Salam Maniparambu and Mohammad Ashraf both hailing from Kasargod of Kerala for smuggling gold in paste form

Abdul salam had arrived from Sharjah in the late hours of April 1 and Asraf from Dubai.
They tried to smuggle gold by concealing in a press buttons of Jeans shirts and gold chains concealed in shoes worn by one of the pax. Gold of net weight 576 grams valued at Rs 26,43,840 which were seized. Further investigation is under progress.

The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner Praveen Kandi. The crucial role of surveillance and interception was executed by Superintendents Rakesh, C.M Meena and Ashish verma.
