Udupi, March 16, 2021: Requesting public cooperation in preventing COVID second wave by following the COVID norms, Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesh warned of criminal cases against the violators.

G Jagadeesh was speaking to reporters after taking the second dose of COVID vaccination today.

“There are discussions about COVID second wave. We have seen an increase in the number in states like Kerala and Maharashtra. Udupi district too has seen a rise in the number of cases. While the district used to record 5-6 cases, now it has increased above 20. Similarly, the positivity rate also has increased to about 1.6. If precautionary measures are not taken then there is surely a possibility of danger,” Jagadeesh said.

“The government has issued guidelines on preventive measures. People should wear a mask and maintain social distancing. They should also follow the guidelines set by the government for organizing programs and meetings. For the next 2 days, we will continue with the fine on violators. However, after that, we will start booking criminal cases against the violators. It is the responsibility of the shop and Mall owners to ensure people coming to their premises wear a mask. The license and permit of the shops and malls will be canceled if COVID measures are not followed,” he warned.

The DC stressed on the COVID negative report not older than 72 hours for those who come from Maharashtra and Kerala.

“I request the people to intimate us if they find anybody coming to our district without a negative certificate. We will take steps for conducting the COVID test,” he added.

He also recollected how the number had increased last time when people from the neighboring states came to the Udupi district.
