Customs officials seize gold concealed in sanitary napkin and rectum
Mangaluru, Feb 18, 2021: In two separate incidents Mangaluru Airport Customs officials have seized over 1 kg gold from two passengers.
A woman Fathima Kottachery (47) from Kasargod (Kerala) had concealed the gold in a sanitary napkin and tried to smuggle it into the country. She was identified by way of profiling and further questioning. Gold in powder form mixed with gum, of 805 grams (net)valued at ₹ 38,88,150 was seized.
Another passenger Mohammed Mohideen, (50) from Bhatkal was also intercepted while trying to smuggle gold by way of rectal concealment. Gold in powder form mixed with gum, of 303 grams(net) valued at ₹ 14,63,490 was seized.
The alert officials of Mangaluru Airport Customs have foiled many smuggling cases in the last few months.
The Customs team was led by Deputy Commissioner Avinash Kiran Rongali and included Superintendents Manokatyayini, Bikram Chakraborty and others.
