Gas tanker accident at Surikumeri, Bantwal

Mangaluru, Feb 02, 2021: The loudspeakers in Mosques are usually meant for Adhan. But on Tuesday morning the alert members of Soorikumeru Mosque used it to caution the public about a gas tanker accident.

A gas tanker turned turtle on NH 77 near Soorikumeru mosque in Bantwal Taluk around 4 am.

The local people noticed this but were not sure if there was any gas leakage. But it was necessary to take some precautionary measures as people getting up early in the morning would start cooking and other activities early.

If there were any leakage then it could lead to a major accident. The alert members of the Mosque committee immediately announced over the mike in Kannada as well as Tulu.

They announced the accident and also asked people to be alert and not to light a fire.

Fire and Emergency Service, Police, Revenue, and other officials immediately rushed to the spot and took steps to stop vehicle movement between Mani and Kalladka. Alternate arrangements were made by Vittal SI Vinod Reddy, Bantwal Traffic SI Rajesh KV and personnel with the help of local volunteers of Budoli Youth Federation, Soorikumeru Badriya Young Mens, and others.

The officials found that there was no leakage. The tanker was removed and traffic returned to normalcy by 3 pm.

It may be recollected that a gas tanker had turned turtle at Soorikumeri about two years ago but there were no casualties or loss.

According to sources the tanker fell across the road around 4 am. Vehicle are not allowed between Mani and Kalladka. Alternate arrangements have been done.
