Electric buses to hit Bengaluru roads in Feb
Udupi, Jan 31, 2021: Electric Buses will hit Bengaluru roads in February on an experimental basis.
This was declared by Deputy Chief Minister and Transport Minister Laxman Savadi during his visit to Udupi on Sunday.
“The State government has taken various steps to boost the electric vehicle to reduce pollution and also reduce the fuel cost. As a major step, the tender process of taking 350 electric buses on lease is in process. In February, they will hit the roads in Bengaluru on a trial basis,” he said.
Savadi was speaking after inaugurating the City Transport Bus Stand in Udupi on Sunday.
“The central government is promoting the use of electric buses in the major cities of the country to control pollution. It provides a ₹ 55 lakh subsidy for the purchase of a bus. Similarly, the state government also is providing ₹33 lakh as a subsidy per bus. The price of an electric bus is ₹ 2 crores and a bus gets ₹ 88 lakh subsidy,” he said.
He said that the state government takes 350 electric buses on lease. The investor would be provided a fixed amount per kilometer. The idea is to expand this to other cities too.
