Udupi Police arrest inter-district chain snatcher

• Involved in about nine cases in DK and Udupi district
• Recover 172.02-gram gold and three two-wheelers .
• Total value of the gold and the two-wheelers recovered from him is 9,38,200.

Udupi, Jan 05, 2021: Udupi police have arrested an inter-district thief involved in chain snatching and vehicle theft. Gold and vehicles worth ₹9.38 lakh have been recovered from him.

Twenty-five year old Chandrashekhar from Mangaluru used to steal two-wheelers to use them for chain snatching!
In the backdrop of an increase in chain snatching cases in the region, Udupi SP N Vishnuvarthan had formed three teams. The teams were led by Udupi Circle Inspector Manjunath, DCIB inspector Manjappa D R and Manipal Inspector Manjunath.

Based on the CCTV footage, the team led by Manjappa took into custody one Chandrashekhar (25) of Mangaluru.

When police questioned him about his two-wheeler, Chandrashekhar said that he had stolen it from a second a hand bike shop at Mangaluru to use it for chain snatching. He had taken it for a test drive and never returned.

Chandrashekhar used this scooter for chain snatching near St Cecily’s School, KSRTC Busstand, Indrali, and other places. He use to identify lonely women and then snatch their chains.

During questioning, he also agreed that he had stolen one two-wheeler in Barke limits and Manipal limits. These were used for chain snatching.

Police recovered 172.02-gram gold and three two-wheelers which he had stolen and used for chain snatching. The total value of the gold and the two-wheelers recovered from him is 9,38,200.

Police suspect him to be involved in other cases too. Manjunath and his team are probing into the case. The police have also found that the arrested person is accused of a house theft case in Mangaluru.
