Mangaluru, Dec 22, 2020: The three coastal districts recorded more than 74 percent turnout in the Panchayat elections today.

While Uttara Kannada recorded 74.77, Dakshina Kannada and Udupi saw 74.43 percent and 74.06 percent respectively.

Hebri Taluk in Udupi district recorded the highest (79.41 percent) turnout in Coastal Karnataka. Bantwal in Dakshina Kannada recorded 76.47 percent and Honnavar in Uttara Kannada recorded 76.17 percent.

Karwar Taluk recorded the lowest (71.22 percent) vote.

Remaining Taluks of these districts will have the election in the second phase on December 27.

Canara Panchayat Punch: Good turnout in Coastal Karnataka amidst COVID pandemic

Canara, Dec 22, 2020: Amidst COVID pandemic people in Canara districts actively participated in the Gram Panchayat elections today.

People stood patiently in the queues while officials ensured that the people followed social distancing by standing on the box marked in the booth. Officials provided sanitizers to each and everybody before entering the booth.

Regular checking by higher officials was conducted. This time the task was double for the officials as they had to ensure free and fair elections and also ensure that all the COVID precautionary measures are followed.

The election is underway at three Taluks in Dakshina Kannada (Mangaluru, Moodabidri, Bantwal) four in Udupi (Udupi, Hebri, Brahmavar, Bydnoor), and Five in Uttara Kannada district (Bhatkal, Honnavar, Kumta, Ankola, Karwar). The remaining taluks will have it in the second phase on December 27.

All three districts recorded good turnout within two hours.
At 9 am Dakshina Kannada recorded 14.48 percent voting, Udupi and Uttara Kannada had 14.37 percent and 9.67 percent respectively.

At 11 am it increased to 32.20 in Udupi district and 25.8 percent in Uttara Kannada district.
