Criminal case against those using formalin as fish preservative

Udupi, Dec 15, 2020: People in Udupi have complained the Deputy Commissioner about fish laced with formalin preservative.

Udupi DC G Jagadeesh has taken such complaints seriously and warned to book criminal cases against those involved in such acts.

“Formalin affects people’s health. Criminal cases will be booked against these people who are involved in unethical practices, and action will be initiated against them under Food and Safety Act-2006,” he warned.

He has also asked the public to bring such cases to the notice of the district administration by dialing Toll-Free number 1077.

Following complaints of excessive formalin usage, Goa had banned entry of fish laid trucks into the state from Karnataka in 2018.
