New Peetadhipathi for Shiroor Matha after Makara Sankranthi

Udupi, December 05, 2020: Sri Shirooru Matha will have a new Peetadhipathi shortly.

The post is vacant after the death of Sri Lakshmivara Teertha Sripadaru on July 19, 2018. Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Sripadaru of Sode Vadiraja Matha is incharge of Shiroor Matha too.

As per the tradition, if a Swamiji dies without an ‘Uttaradhikari,” (successor), the administration and religious works of that mutt will be supervised by the Dwandwa Mutt.

Of the eight Mutts in Udupi, two Mutts each are paired and are termed as ‘Dwandwa Mutts.’ Sode Matha is the dwandwa matha of Shiroor Matha.

Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha Sripadaru of Sode Vadiraja Matha has now decided to appoint the new Peetadhipathi for Shiroor Matha.

“A spiritual youth with a Vedic background family has been selected and will be appointed after Makara Sankranthi,” Sri Vishwavallabha Teertha told reporters.
At present, the youth is undergoing Vedic training at Sode Matha in Sonda, Uttara Kannada.
