Mangaluru, Nov 20: As the BJP is gearing up for cabinet expansion in Karnataka, like-minded leaders from the fishermen community have demanded a berth for Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon.

Lalaji is from the fishermen community, considered one of the influential community in the Coastal region. Lalaji has won the seat for BJP thrice- 2004, 2008, and again in 2018 but failed to make it into the cabinet.

While Congress leader Pramod Madhwaraj from the fishermen community had entered Siddaramaiah’s cabinet, the fishermen community has not got any representation this time.

Samana Manaska Meenugarara Vedike Mangaluru Valaya held a press conference at Mangaluru on Friday asking the government to include Kaup MLA Lalaji Mendon in the cabinet.

“Lalaji has contested five elections. He has won thrice and has a good experience. He has the eligibility to become a Minister,” Nadadoni Meenugarara Sangha president Sharat Guddekopla said.

The total population of the fishermen community in the state is over 80 lakh.
He demanded CM Yediyurappa to give representation to the fishermen community.

He felt that Lalaji’s elevation would help in fulfilling the longstanding demand of the fishermen.
