Karwar, Nov 18: The airport work in Uttara Kannada district has gained momentum. After issuing notification for land acquisition, the district administration will now hold a meeting to discuss the rehabilitation and resettlement with the people whose land will be acquired for the project.
Construction of the Naval Air Station is one of the major highlights of the second phase of Project Sea Bird. But instead of restricting it only to Navy purposes, the government wants it to be used for civilian flights too. As a result, the state government has joined hands with the Indian Navy for the Airport project at Ankola.
While the Navy has enough land for the 2,000 mtr runway for its purpose, the government has started the process of acquiring land for the construction of an additional 1,000 Mtrs runway (for civilian airlines to land) and also the construction of a civilian terminal.
The district administration proposes to acquire 93-29-05 acres of land in Alageri, Belikeri, and Bhavikeri villages of Ankola Taluk.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Krishnamurthy H K who is also in charge of Rehabilitation and Resettlement has asked the landowners to attend the meeting and submit their grievances.
Details of the meeting:
Nov 23 (11 am) at Belikeri Gram Panchayat Hall
Nov 24 (11 am) at Holevattara Ganeshotsava Samithi Hall in Alageri Gram Panchayat.
