Plans to develop river islands: Vedavyas Kamath
Mangaluru, Oct 31: Aiming to boost tourism in the region, Mangaluru City South MLA Vedavyas Kamath along with Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rajendra K V and Mayor Diwakar visited river islands (Kudru) on Saturday.
Mangaluru City is surrounded by two rivers- Netravathi and Phaluguni. Both these rivers have several small and big islands, called Kudrus in the local language.
While beach tourism is one of the major attractions in coastal Karnataka, officials and elected representatives want to develop the river islands as tourist destinations by organizing events and water activities.
“There are several initiatives to boost tourism in the region. We will stress on developing river island,” Vedavyas Kamath said.
The MLA was accompanied by Mangaluru City Corporation Standing Committee chairpersons Poornima, Jagadish Shetty, Kiran Kumar, and Premananda Shetty.
