Farooq murder: Police open fire at accused
- Umar Farooq was murdered on Friday evening near Melkar
- Three accused were waylaid at Gundya on Saturday morning.
- One of the accused Khalil injures Sub Inspector. Police open fire at his leg and arrest him.
Mangaluru, Oct 24: Police had to open fire and injure the accused in Farooq murder case when the he attacked Sub Inspector on Saturday early morning.
Umar Farooq of Kalladka in Bantwal was hacked to death on Friday.
A special team lead by Bantwal Circle inspector and including Sub Inspectors of Bantwal Town, Bantwal Rural and Uppinangady stations.
The police team erected checkposts to nab the assailant. The police officials received a confirm tipoff that the accused in the case was moving on NH 75 towards Bengaluru.
The police who waylaid the vehicle with three accused at Gundya. The police were about to take them to custody when one of them- Khalil attacked and injured Bantwal Rural SI Prasanna.
Sensing the critical situation, Bantwal Town SI Avinash who was on the spot opened fire at Khali’s leg and arrested him. Two others who were with Khalil escaped from the spot.
