On the seventh day of Navratri, Goddess is traditionally worshipped in the form of ‘Kaalaratri’ which is widely regarded as one of the destructive forms of Goddess Durga. She is considered as one of the fiercest form of the mother Goddess and believed to invoke fear in people. She is also considered to be the destroyer of negative energies, ghosts, spirits and demon entities, who flee upon her arrival.
Out of the 700 shlokas in Markandeya Purana that refer to the Devi Mahatme, around 70% of it speaks about the fierce form of the goddess and her abilities to bless her devotees.
Goddess in this form is also known as Shubhankari meaning auspiciousness/one who does good due to the belief that she always gives auspicious results to her devotees by saving them from all kinds of evilness and assuring her devotees to be fearless of anything, when is here to safeguard them.
