Plastic ban violators to be fined: Dinakar Babu

Udupi, Oct 19: Plastic ban will be strictly enforced in the rural areas of Udupi district from November 1.

Presiding the monthly KDP meeting on Monday, Udupi Zilla Panchayat president Dinakar Babu asked all the Panchayat Development Officials (PDOs) and Taluk Panchayat Executive Officers (EOs) to take necessary measures to enforce the ban strictly.

“Though Plastic Waste Management Rules has come into force in 2016, it is not being followed in rural areas. People still continue to get plastic carry bags in hotels and shops. Though there are alternatives to plastic, they are not being used,” he said.

“Therefore all the officials should take necessary action to enforce the ban. All the Panchayats should impose fine on those who use plastic. Officials should start creating awareness from today,” he added.
