Stranger cheats elderly woman in Udupi
Udupi, Oct 13: An elderly woman was cheated by a stranger when she had been for treatment in Udupi City.
The incident took place on October 12. Sixty three year old Saroja, wife of Late Gopal Bhandary of Santhoor village had come to Udupi as she was suffering from back pain. She had come to a doctor when she met a stranger.
The person who picked up a conversation with Saroja introduced himself as Rajesh, son of Ramanna Bhandary and an employee of Karnataka Bank. Continuing the conversation, the person told Saroja that the bank was giving ₹17,000 to the poor and assured get the amount for her.
He then took her to a private hospital. On entering, he told her that the bank would not give money to those who had gold and so asked her to hand the golden bangles to him that he would keep it in the bag. The innocent elderly woman handed it over to him.
He left the place assuring to come in a while. It was too late when she realized that she was cheated as the person never returned and the bangles also were missing from the bag.
Based on the complaint from Saroja, Udupi police have registered an FIR under IPC Section 420. The value of bangles is estimated to be ₹ 87,000.
