Noted Yakshagana Bhagavatha Tenkabailu Tirumaleshwara Shastri no more
Mangaluru, Sep 27: Famous Yakshagana Bhagavatha Tenkabailu Tirumaleshwara Shastri breathed his last at a private hospital at Derlakatte on Sunday.
Tirumaleshwara Shastri (76) who hails from Tenkabail village in Bantwal was a noted Bhagavatha (singer) in the Tenku Thittu school of Yakshagana.
He had served the Yakshagana Melas like Kairangala, Kuntaru, Bappanadu, Madhuru, Malla and Ira.
He was known for his unique voice that attracted hundreds of Yakshagana lovers.
Though he was famous as a Bhagavatha, Shastri was well versed in Chende and Maddale instruments too.
He trained students at Sri Padre Chandu Yakshagana Training Center, Perla.
He was a recipient of many awards including the Udupi Yakshagana Kalaranga Award and Dakshina Kannada Rajyotsava Award.
