Coastal Karnataka to experience heavy rain at isolated places
Mangaluru, Sep 07: Heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely over Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Tamilnadu in the next 4-5 days due to the Low-pressure area in the Arabian sea.
A Low-Pressure Area lies over the Southeast & adjoining East-Central Arabian Sea with the associated cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5 km above mean sea level.
It is very likely to move nearly northwards during the next 2 days and weaken thereafter. An east-west shear zone runs roughly along IOO N across peninsular India between 3.1 & 3.6 Km above mean sea levels. It is very likely to persist during the next 4-5 days.
Under its influence:
- Fairly widespread to widespread rainfall and thunderstorm & lightning very likely over Peninsular India during the next 4-5 days.
- Heavy rainfall at isolated places also likely over Karnataka, Kerala & Mahe, and Tamilnadu during the same period.
Strong Wind (speed reaching 45-50 kmph) very likely over Southwest Arabian Sea and Squally Weather with the wind (speed reaching 45-50 kmph) over Southeast & East-central Arabian Sea and along & off Lakshadweep area, Kerala-Karnataka coasts and with the wind (speed reaching 40-50 kmph) over Comorin & Gulf of Mannar. Fishermen are advised not to venture into these areas.
Warning for fishermen:
High waves in the range of 2.0- 3.3 meters are forecasted up to 110.30 pm of September 7 along the coast of Karnataka from Mangalore to Karwar. Surface Current speeds vary between 26- 59 cm/sec.

It is forecasted that the sea will be rough near shore and the low lying areas (Udupi, Murudeswar, Gokarna, Mashem) may experience surges (gushing of seawater into these areas) intermittently between 11.30 am of September 7 and 11.30 pm of Sep 9 due to the effect of the high period (18-23 sec) swell waves, having 1.8-2.6 m height.
