Udupi CMC collects ₹26K ‘mask’ fine

Udupi, June 16: Taking the fight against COVID-19 seriously, Udupi Municipal Council officials have collected a fine of Rs 27,500 from those who failed to take preventive measures such as wearing mask and maintaining social distancing. 

They have not just warned strict action against those who fail to maintain social distancing and wearing masks, but have also implemented it. 

Social distancing and wearing masks are the two major preventive measures in the fight against COVID. 

In about one month the Udupi Municipal Council officials have collected a fine of Rs 27,500 from those who were found not wearing masks and those who failed to maintain social distancing.

Municipal Commissioner Anand Kallolikar said – between May 12 and June 16, officials had imposed fine  of Rs 100 each on 266 people for not wearing masks. The total fine collected from this was Rs 26,600. Meanwhile those who violated social distancing too have been fined. This fine amounted to Rs 900. Thus Municipality has collected a total of Rs Rs 27,500 fine.  

Udupi district has the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state. Majority of the cases were those who had returned from other states and countries. Most of them were in institutional quarantine and some in-home quarantine. 

 

The district administration is taking all measures to ensure that the COVID does not spread in the community. By imposing heavy fines, the officials trying to create awareness and also warn the people about the need to take preventive measures.
