Konkan Railway helps 67178 migrant workers to reach their homes
Udupi: The Canara coast of Karnataka along with Goa and Maharashtra provided jobs to thousands of migrant laborers.
The laborers who come from states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Bihar work here in places like construction sites, hotels, saloons, and fast food joints and go home once or twice in a year.
In the backdrop of Covid-19, they had to return to their home town.
On request from the Karnataka, Goa, and Maharashtra state governments, Konkan Railway operated a large number of Shramik special trains for carrying stranded migrants labourers from the Konkan region to their respective States.
Konkan Railway officials said that to date it has operated 50 Shramik special trains from Udupi, Madgaon, Thivim, Karmali, Sindudurg, Ratnagiri, and Chiplun Stations to their home towns in Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and West Bengal.
In total 67,178 laborers benefitted from this service.
