Two COVID-19 positive cases in Bhatkal

Karwar, March 24: Two persons from Bhatkal have been tested positive for COVID-19.
Giving details, Uttara Kannada District Deputy Commissioner Dr K Harish Kumar said that a 40 year old Bhatkal based person had come from Dubai on March 21 at 6.30 am. He was picked up by his relative in his car. After reaching Bhatkal he had voluntarily got admitted to Taluk Hospital on the same evening.
As there were some symptoms, his throat samples were sent to the lab.
Another person who has been tested positive is a 65 year old from Bhatkal. He had landed at Mumbai from Dubai on March 19. He took the Mangaluru Express train and arrived at Bhatkal on March 20.
He boarded the rickshaw at the railway station and came home with his son.
Initially he did not have any symptoms. But after two days he developed some symptoms like fever and thus his samples too were sent to the lab.
The result that came on Monday night declared both to be positive for COVID-19.
The district administration has identified those who were in contact with the two positive patients.
Bhatkal town has been identified as cluster.
Zilla Panchayat CEO M Roshan has camped at Bhatkal and is monitoring the situation. Medical teams are visiting every house and collecting health details.
Bhatkal has already been locked down and activity in the town has been restricted completely.
The district administration has decided that if necessary it would provide the essential needs to households.
