Udupi, December 08: The Union Government’s Surya Ghar scheme, aimed at reducing electricity costs by promoting solar energy adoption, should be implemented effectively, said Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Kota Srinivas Poojary.

Speaking at an awareness workshop and subsidy distribution event organized by the Udupi district administration at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Hall, Manipal, Poojary emphasized that families without access to electricity must be prioritized under the scheme.

He urged Gram Panchayats and local bodies to educate the public about the scheme’s benefits and the subsidies provided. Beneficiaries installing solar panels can avail of subsidies up to 3 kW, with Rs. 30,000 per kW for the first 1 kW, Rs. 60,000 for 2 kW, and Rs. 78,000 for 3 kW systems. Poojary also stressed the need for officials to work diligently to ensure the benefits reach the last mile.

Udupi DC Dr. K Vidya Kumari said that solar power is crucial in addressing energy shortages while reducing environmental harm. During the event, financial aid and loans under the scheme were distributed to beneficiaries.
