Mythology Meets Tradition: Dharmasthala’s Seva Bayalata Captivates Devotees
Dharmasthala, Nov 22, 2024: The revered temple town of Dharmasthala, home to the sacred Shri Manjunatheshwara Temple, also nurtures a 200-year-old tradition of the Shri Manjunatheshwara Yakshagana Mandali. This cultural treasure has captivated art lovers and devotees alike with its timeless performances.
Continuing the tradition, Seva Bayalata (Mela Tirugata) commenced today (Thursday) until May 23, 2025. Held every evening from 7:00 PM to midnight for the past seven years, these performances have not only drawn enthusiastic responses from art lovers but also created opportunities for deeper learning and practice among artists.
The Dharmasthala Yakshagana troupe stands out for its authentic costumes, folk artistry, and performances rooted in mythological themes, making it a hallmark of traditional Yakshagana. The Seva Bayalata, while entertaining, also serves as a medium to promote spiritual influence and moral values, enhancing its cultural and ethical significance.
Marking the beginning of the Yakshagana season, the idol of Sri Mahaganapati was taken in a majestic procession. The idol is taken to every performance location.
