SDM College Celebrates 78th Independence Day with Patriotic Spirit and Environmental Awareness
Ujire, Aug 16, 2024: The 78th Independence Day was marked by a vibrant celebration at the Sri Ratnavarma Heggade Sports Ground of SDM College, focusing on the theme of a “Developed India” and raising awareness for a plastic-free environment. The event featured a captivating parade and the stirring melodies of patriotic songs.
D. Harshendra Kumar, Secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, hoisted the national flag in the presence of students, teaching, and non-teaching staff from SDM School, Pre-University, Degree, Post-Graduate, Naturopathy, and Technical Colleges.
This year’s celebration was notable for its commitment to an eco-friendly approach, with the flag hoisting and stage being prepared without the use of plastic materials.
As the flag was unfurled, students from the SDM Kala Kendra presented the national anthem, followed by the rendition of “Vande Mataram” and the iconic “Saare Jahan Se Achha,” which instilled a sense of pride in the gathering.
The event was hosted by Suveer Jain, Assistant Professor at SDM Post-Graduate Centre, and Divya Kumari, Lecturer at the Pre-University College. The parade was conducted under the guidance of Captain G.R. Bhat, Lieutenant Commander Dr. Sridhar Bhat, Army Senior Division Officer Lieutenant Dr. Bhanupakash B.E, Caretaker Lieutenant Shubharani, and Caretaker Harish Shetty. Students managed the band set during the flag hoisting under the leadership of Rover Scout Leader Prasad and Ranger Leader Ganavi.
Dr. Satishchandra S., Secretary of SDM Educational Institutions, Dr. Kumar Hegde B.A., Principal of SDM College, and other heads of SDM Educational Institutions graced the occasion with their presence.
NSS volunteers distributed sweets, while students from the Physical Education Department’s Sports Club efficiently organized and decorated the sports ground to enhance the Independence Day celebrations.
